There is evidence that long-term memories are not stored in a static state, but are, instead, re-encoded each time the memory is recalled. This means that implicit memories of what it felt like to be a child are unconscious, long-term memories that are reactivated and re-coded throughout the lifespan as they repeatedly emerge into working memory .

Adults who were not supported by an AAMSE-Certified Practitioner during childhood years but, who had learning challenges, have generally layered onto their original sensory processing difference, layers of feelings-based memories.

People with dementia often develop additional layers of emotional reactivity, because now they really feel different from everyone else.
